Kaichou wa Maid-sama! Chapter 51 summary

Hi!

I am an avid fan of KWMS and have been waiting impatiently for chapter 51! If you've seen Yuukuzuri-chan's scans (http://yuukuzuri.livejournal.com/) but do not understand Japanese, this post is for you!

Disclaimer: neither English nor Japanese are my first language but I did my best. This might get you by until the professionals (the wonderful Potato Otaku http://potato-otaku.blogspot.com/) publish a decent scanlation. :)

So, on with the Summary!

KAICHOU WA MAID-SAMA, CHAPTER 51
Subtitle: There are two Usuis?!

At school, all the boys are saying 'good morning' but when Ayuzawa says it, it is extremely forceful. She's in a very bad mood. The boys notice that she has huge dark bags under her eyes due to lack of sleep and say that she's scary - meanwhile she's telling off other guy for not wearing the necktie the right way.

Ayuzawa then remembers Tora's words: 'You are the only reason holding Usui back. Someone might come greet you very soon', and then remembers meeting the guy that resembles Usui. She thinks 'That guy must be...'

Then the three idiots arrive just joking among them, that they forgot how to wear the uniform - they look quite affeminate. Ayuzawa is so mad that she asks Katada (one of the guys from the student council) to take pictures of the idiots and to show them to their parents. The idiots beg her not to do it and do not understand why she's so mad compared to usual.

Sakura asks Misaki why she doesn't look so good, and she assumes it's because she's been staying up late studying (which Ayuzawa doesn't deny nor confirm clearly). Sakura then tells her that she must sleep well because otherwise it's bad for her skin. Shizuko interrupts Sakura to say that they have to go because class is starting.

Ayuzawa notices that Usui left her a lollipop in her desk and thinks, 'Idiot Usui, haven't I told you not to bring candy to school?'.

Later we see Ayuzawa outside Usui's classroom. (If you remember, she decided in the last chapter that she was going to confess her feelings clearly, directly to Usui so she is gathering her courage to do it). She opens the door and calls 'Usui...' but at that moment some boys are pushing each other and she gets distracted scolding them.

At the next break (rest period?) she goes back to Usui's classroom but is interrupted by a member of the Student Council about some prints for the meeting. At the next break, she goes back but the room is empty; they are in gym class. At the next break, it's lunch time but Sakura and Shizuko find her to have lunch with her.

At the end of classes, Ayuzawa's thinking that she didn't have the chance to say a single word to Usui, 'What's with today's bad timing?!' After this, there's only the Student Council meeting left, so she tries to find him for the last time. 'Please, I beg you, be still there!' She seems relieved when she finds him still in his classroom, but Maria sensei interrupts, throwing herself into Misaki's arms. Usui separates them (with Maria sensei protesting 'What are you doing, Usui-kun!'). Ayuzawa finds out that Maria sensei told the male students that if they cleaned properly, she would give them a prize, so to save her, Misaki drags her away. You can see that Maria sensei is glad that she stopped Misaki from talking to Usui, and he seems mad.

The student council is finished and Ayuzawa is the last in the room. She thinks 'Since he didn't come, does that mean that he's gone home?' However, she's decided to do it today: to tell him directly! 'Do not take this determination lightly, idiot. Just you wait!' She goes to his apartment and looks for his apt. number, and someone answers, 'Yes'.

Meanwhile, at the Ayuzawa household, Suzuna asks her mom about Ayuzawa's whereabouts, and she answers that she went to share some apples (since they have a bunch). Suzuna asks 'Where...? what does it matter'. Hinata is there, so Suzuna calls, 'You-kun' and asks him to do a 'thank you, food' exercise (dance?) to which Hinata answers 'How nostalgic!' but he still has some homework pending so he can't do it... Ayuzawa's mom asks Suzuna to help her pick up (the apples from the table, etc.)

Back to Usui's apartment, a blond guy that looks very much like Takumi opens the door and says 'Welcome'. Ayuzawa (very formally) says that she has something to talk about with 'Usui Takumi' (emphazising the name), 'Is he not home right now?'. The guy who opened the door answers 'In any case, please come in', but Ayuzawa seems upset and tells him that without the permission of the 'real person' (the person himself) she does not like to enter the house (meaning that since Takumi is not there, she will not go in). The guy then tells her 'Of course. You're a strong person, just like I heard. Won't you even lift an eyebrow for this "surprise"?', as he takes the blond wig off. 'Please enter, as his brother, I authorise your visit'.

Ayuzawa thinks, 'As I thought, this is Usui's older brother!'.

The brother then says, 'As it is, I had a lot of confidence but... didn't I look alike at all?' - meaning that he was pretending to be Usui and Ayuzawa immediately noticed that it wasn't him. 'Many people have fallen for it, you know.'

Ayuzawa thinks, 'They ARE alike. The features are somewhat similar, but the "atmosphere" (around them) is the same'.

The brother then asks what her business is with Usui, so that he can give him the message, since he doesn't know when he'll be back. Ayuzawa becomes very flustered since she went there to CONFESS so of course she can't entrust him with the message, and then she mentions the apples... The brother becomes very enthusiastic when he hears about the apples, and goes on saying how delicious they are and how much he likes them, so Ayuzawa offers him one. He is extremely polite in accepting it and goes on again in thanking her and excusing himself for taking the apple, and then she thinks that everything now is in confusion; after all, they ARE alike (since they mess her up). As he's looking for a knife in Usui's kitchen (for the apple) she wonders if he's really an Englishman since his Japanese is extremely natural. When he finds the knife, she wonders if he's as good as Usui in the kitchen. He proceeds then to cut his finger horribly (blood going everwhere), and in a second a bunch of bodyguards are there, screaming 'Gerard-sama!' (so now we know Usui's brother's name!), and they patch him up perfectly. One of the bodyguards tells Gerard discreetly that they have to leave, and Gerard thinks out loud what to do with Ayuzawa, leave one of the bodyguards behind to keep her company while Usui gets there? But Ayuzawa is in the middle of saying that it's not necessary since she can wait outside, when Usui arrives.

Gerard receives him with 'Welcome back, Takumi', and explaining that since he thought it wrong to leave 'her' (same word for 'girlfriend') under the cold sky waiting for him, he let her in. 'Was it alright?'. Usui just answers, 'Yes, thanks'. The brother then apologizes for dirtying the kitchen (with his blood) but presumably the bodyguards have cleaned it until it sparkles.

Then they start speaking everything in English (that Ayuzawa does not seem to understand very well). Usui asks Gerard the reason why he went all the way there. Gerard only answers, 'I'll leave it like this for today; there will be plenty of opportunities. By the way, did you go today to the Usui's house?', meaning his parents' house. Usui answers in the affirmative.

Gerard then says 'Taking care of a dog that escapes in the middle of his training certainly requires so much effort... It is not such a lack of filial piety.' (Note: Sorry! I'm not sure about this... But he's telling him off, with a smile on his face). He leaves Usui and Ayuzawa alone, while she thinks what a tense, painful atmosphere there was between them, the children of different fathers...

Then she apologizes to Usui for being there 'U-Usui, sorry for coming in so selfishly...' but Usui interrupts, 'Did he tell you anything?' She answers, 'Eh? Nothing meaningful, when I gave him an apple he wanted to eat it but he cut himself deeply so...'. Usui asks about the apples and Ayuzawa answers blushingly that her mom got so many apples at her workplace, and since he said that he wanted to eat 'rabbit apples'... (apples with the skin cut off as rabbit ears). Usui only blushes slightly and says 'Ayuzawa'.

Meanwhile the brother is outside among the buildings, smoking a cigarette and mentioning to the bodyguards that since the neighborhood is packed with buildings, it does not feel like Japan. They want to take him to a hospital while he complains that Japan is not nice to smokers and he'd have liked to experience Japan in a better way. He agrees to go to the hospital 'as a good boy' as long as 'Cedric' (one of the bodyguards) will 'take care of the business'. Cedric complains and does not seem to want to do it at all, but Gerard answers that there's no one more responsible than 'Cedi' (apparently his nickname) so he should do his best! Then he drives off.

Back to the apartment, Usui is noticing that the rabbit ears have been torn off (from the apples). Ayuzawa answers angrily, 'I know, dammit, I'm sorry!' while she thinks that she didn't practice enough at home and that she needs to get better, but Usui is already eating them and saying that Ayuzawa's rabbit apples are delicious.

Ayuzawa gathers her courage again and says, 'Usui... well, how should I say this... Well, I don't have all this thought out but... since I thought that (for you to decide) what you want to do, first there are some things that you won't understand unless I tell you directly... Eh? What happened? I do not know what I'm saying anymore, but in any case, in other words, I L...' Usui then interrupts her (was there a kiss there or not?! At the very least, getting really close to her) and says 'I'm sorry, Ayuzawa, I can't right now (something like, it cannot be right now). Sorry. Thank you, Ayuzawa. There will come a day, when surely, I will listen to the rest (the continuation) of those words'. And he hugs her (kyaaaaaaaaaa!). Outside the apartment, we can see 'Cedric' standing, waiting.

NOTE: Come to think of it, Usui's brother's name might be Gerald instead of Gerard (sound the same in Japanese). Gerard exists as a name but Gerald is probably MUCH more common. Oh well.

NOTE 2: If you like this summary or you have anything to say, please leave a comment! Thanks. :)

  15. Thanks to everyone who posted a comment. I'm glad that you found it useful - and that you were able to understand it. :)

I decided to do this summary both as an exercise (I haven't continued my Japanese studies for a long time and I really need to practice more writing in English), and because I was desperate to understand what was happening in this chapter. After such a chapter as 50 where mysteries are revealed but there is no confrontation between Misaki, Usui, or even more information about Gerard, this chapter seemed really interesting.

As long as I have access to the raws the following month, I'd like to continue writing these summaries.

    Thanks all for your support.

  25. Your translations and summary were so clear!(: It's so nice getting an early heads-up for the chapter to keep the fans nice and satisfied until the actual english scans are released. Poor Misa... In chapter 50 the discussion between Igarashi and Misa gave me the feeling that Igarashi was really talking for Usui, stimulating what it would be like if Usui had asked her out. (in Usui's mind, the eavesdropper~)It must have been horrible for Usui, hearing his feelings told to Misa--albeit indirectly--and then her reaction. Having something to go on after that chapter was amazing! Great job! ^-^

  27. Holy Shit!!! That brother of Takumi's is really pissing me off! But I predict he is going to do something bad to Misaki. Why USUIIII?!?! You should've let her confess. I was like 'FINALLLLYYYYY!' when Misaki was confessing. Something seriously bad is going to happen but no matter what obstacles and hardships Usui and Misaki have to go through they will always love each other! XD
